This gong depicts famous Nepalese buddhist site Swayambhunath near Kathmandu. It is a large, booming gong (just under 19") and plays a deep note when struck with high complimentary overtones.
The video demonstration shows the gong being played with two mallets. For filming purposes, the gong was hanging quite low, and the extra mallet helped stabilise the gong - however, it is not necessary to use two mallets to achieve the deep roar heard in the video.
Playing around the edges with one hand will tease the sound up to a crescendo which can be finished off with a firm but gentle tap in the centre of the gong. It produces a very beautiful sound, and provides a very soothing, healing experience. I strongly recommend using headphones when listening to the demonstration!
